Fall on Amelia Island

Added: Aug 22, 2021
Category: Things to Do

Fall is just around the corner and we couldn't be more excited. Summer is fantastic and we obviously love it, but fall brings a reprieve from the warmer months - it still allows for shorts and flip-flops.  Of course you may visit the beach and enjoy most of the wonderful summer activities you're accustomed to while visiting Amelia Island, but just in case you want a little something different to check out this fall, here are a few winning options.

AMELIA ISLAND DANCE FESTIVAL

September 10-11. The Amelia Island Dance Festival celebrates the natural beauty of Amelia Island and brings world-class dance, inspiring movement and choreography to our shores once again. Through education, altruism, and performance, the festival will showcase diverse styles of dance from local performers and special guest artists performing tap, ballet, modern, and more.

ISLAND HOP CRAFT BREW FEST

September 18. Fernandina Beach Main Street is excited to invite you to the inaugural Island Hop Beer Fest where the awesome breweries on and around Amelia Island will be showcased. The beer fest will take place in Central Park and feature our very own First Love BrewingAmelia Island Brewing Company (AIBC) and Mocama Beer Company, plus other breweries from around the area. Live entertainment by local favorite, the Honey Badgers!

OKTOBERFEST

September 25. Join Amelia Island Brewing Company (AIBC) for their annual Oktoberfest celebration from 12pm-7pm Saturday, September 25th with Live Music from 2-6pm, seasonal Oktoberfest beer releases, traditional food, and games. This is always a fun event!

FALLING FOR SHRIMP

October 1 - 3. Because we haven't been able to celebrate the annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival for the past two years, we're excited to celebrate a "mini" version of Shrimp Festival with Falling for Shrimp. This is in no way a replacement for our beloved spring Shrimp Festival, held every first weekend in May, but simply a reason to celebrate the return of fall with our favorite crustacean.

AMELIA ISLAND JAZZ FESTIVAL

October 3-10. WOW! Currently in its second decade, the Amelia Island Jazz Festival provides a rich, diverse cultural offering to the Amelia Island area by exposing thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds to the sounds, excitement and vitality of great jazz. Held in various venues around the island.

ZOOMA FLORIDA WOMEN'S HALF MARATHON, 5K AND 12K

October 23 & 24. Recognized as one of The Top 10 Women’s Races by Shape Magazine, the race takes place at Main Beach Park and the finish line leads into an unbelievable Post-Race party at Salt Life Food Shack with food, recovery yoga, music and more! Come get your run on!

GEORGIA VS. FLORIDA FOOTBALL WEEKEND (A/K/A THE WORLD'S LARGEST COCKTAIL PARTY)

October 29 - 31. You'll want to secure you Sand Dollar Vacation Rental now for the annual University of Georgia vs. University of Florida football weekend where the Bulldogs and Gators battle for bragging rights on the border. It's a full weekend of activities planned around the big game held on Saturday, October 30. Go DAWGS! Go GATORS!

RIGHT WHALE FESTIVAL

November 6 & 7. The Right Whale Festival celebrates the annual return of endangered North Atlantic right whales to our warm coastal waters. With as few as 450 remaining, this family-fun event raises awareness of the threats to right whales and how we can help in their recovery. The festival highlights ocean-themed activities and exhibits that emphasize education and environmentally responsible adventures and products.

THE PETANQUE AMELIA ISLAND OPEN

November 12-14. This event takes place each year along the Fernandina Beach Marina waterfront and draws players and spectators from around the world. What is Petanque? It is basically a form of lawn bowling originating in France and is usually played on rough ground using steel balls. If you've not witnessed this event, do yourself a favor and make plans to attend!

HOLIDAY HOME TOUR

December 3 & 4. The 15th annual Holiday Home Tour will showcase homes in the downtown historic district of Fernandina Beach from 10am - 4pm. Select historic  homes are decorated by local florists and interior designers and are open for visits. Docents in each house give the history of the home, highlight the period architectural elements, and guide visitors through the lavishly decorated homes.

DICKENS ON CENTRE

December 9-12. Free to the public, this Victorian inspired holiday festival is as fun as the dickens for the entire family. Enjoy costumed characters, themed entertainment and performances, visits from Saint Nick, and a variety of vendors selling seasonal gifts and wares. Inspired by Charles Dickens’ novella “A Christmas Carol,” Dickens on Centre transforms downtown Fernandina into a classic English village, sure to enliven your Christmas spirit.

Fall is coming so make your travel plans now and book your oceanfront accommodations at Sand Dollar Vacation Rentals soon!
